My older dog came in with a painful swollen eye that wouldn’t open, and I was very worried he could lose his sight. I called ahead, gave all my information, and was told the wait wouldn’t be long. When I arrived, I had to repeat everything because apparently none of it was entered, and the staff were not welcoming. We waited almost 3 hours with only one other person there, only for me to be told my dog was basically “not important” and at the bottom of the list. I explained multiple times that this was a serious eye injury, but there was no urgency or compassion shown. They blamed being understaffed and said even after waiting several more hours, he’d likely still not be seen. Very disappointing experience. My dog was in obvious pain, and all they did was take his vitals. I would not recommend this place.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! If I would have listened to the vet or the tech (relaying for the vet) my dog would have died. My dog is my daughter’s service animal in training and has been her ESA for six years. So this is a huge deal to our family. Our dog was experiencing serious concerns. Hadn’t eaten in nearly a week (last full meal was Wednesday, she ate less than half Thursday, so I tried again in the AM, she took two to three bites and didn’t eat since), won’t walk, she was having labored breathing, going under my bed and won’t even come out, and since she was 4-8wks (I was told we got her when she was 8wks, but our vet was sure she was barely four weeks), but she has NEVER gone to the bathroom without sniffing for AT LEAST five min, but now, since Sunday, since she won’t walk, I put her down to urinate and she takes a half a step and pees - most of the time she pees on the concrete (absolutely never happened before) and she’s not had accidents since we potty trained her, but she has been having a lot!! In under two days has had more than ten! I was asked if it was an incontinence or what and I explained no, she just needs to go and is unwell so she just takes half a step pees then lays down sometimes in the pee. I explained every symptom, in great detail, expressed that my daughter is convinced she’s dying and told the tech, they have been very in-tuned with one another on another level I never thought was possible, hence her being her ESA and her Service Animal-In-Training. Spoke with the tech for about five minutes, maybe longer, but then she took her to the back. Came back 15-20 minutes later and said, “so we have been diverting because there’s only one vet and we took her vitals and the vet did a quick exam between her other patients and since it is not life threatening, we called Summit in Tacoma to see if they have an availability and they do, so that’s available because she’s not life threatening and it would be at least a six hour wait. She did have a high HR which can be expected because she’s in a new place, and her bp was low, and her temp was normal at 103. Not life threatening and the vet said she’s not having labored breathing, so that’s good.” This is when I said, “If she was having just a high HR and low bp, with no other symptoms that’s normal. And if they’re stressed/uneasy, I would think it would be a high HR AND high bp, not low. I am a nurse, so I get it, I treat humans, but I know her baseline of her breathing. (Mind you, the vet tech (with green hair) was getting all the info when we got there even said as I was explaining her issues, I said she’s having labored breathing, she said, “oh I can hear her whining and having some issue.” I explained, I get it, not the worst labored breathing you guys may have seen, but it’s labored. I was again told it was not life threatening and the vet wasn’t concerned. So I thought I should trust the vet. I’m a nurse for humans and dogs are different. Since I was told MULTIPLE TIMES it wasn’t life threatening, I chose to not go to Summit. Get my dog home, she has two more accidents, on me mind you, I message my usual vet. They called before they were even opened and said her symptoms are very concerning and we need to get her in. Take her in. Tell the vet (still never saw my dog, just the one who could see her) and she said I’m pretty sure I know what it is, but I need to do an ultrasound. Does it instantly and says, yup. Just what I thought. She’s very sick and she has Pyometra (where the uterus fills with us and is very LIFE THREATENING!! She said, as she’s doing the u/s and showing me, this is the worst I’ve seen and the one before this was in a 16 yr old dog. I’m going to go get the tech so we can get her hooked up to antibiotics because this is serious. If she doesn’t have this done today, she will die.” AFTER getting a round of antibiotics, she was in surgery because she was so bad. When I got an update, she said she knew it was bad, but it was even worse than she expected. It was so bad, she wouldn’t have made it.” So glad I listened to my gut, not the Vet!!

We have been here twice for our dachshund and they are prompt, caring professionals who are very knowledgeable and dedicated. I would recommend this clinic without hesitation. Their prices are fair.

Not able to sell me a plastic connector the DO HAVE for my dogs feeding tube because they haven't seen the animal. I don't need them to install it, it goes on the end of a rubber hose for feeding, a Fleur lock plug. Absolutely unprofessional and glad we didn't use them initially.

We were gifted 4.5 more beautiful days with our boxer, Mara, after an emergency visit at 12:30am-5:00am on a random Monday. Out of nowhere our girl had developed a breathing issue, and the veterinarian and staff here had phenomenal bedside manner having to deliver us some terrible news that she had terminal cancer and not long left with us. Thankfully they listened to us and performed an x-ray to discover this, as when we arrived she went back to regular breathing and seemed fine to the eye. Had they turned us away or given us a less thorough exam, we would’ve missed it and these last few days wouldn’t have been able to be spent celebrating her life in full. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts as we move into our mourning period having to had said goodbye yesterday.

9.5 hours and they were not at all helpful. If your cat is even the least bit spicy and not a fan of other people do not bring them here because they did not know how to handle. Did not prioritize or care about my cat. They claimed low staff and low priority- but all in all it was a frustrating, useless, and expensive day with no help towards prognosis or care.

Fast care. Clear communication. Competitive fees.

This place was very professional and caring. They where very caring to our needs and where instrumental in arranging the details of my babygirl, thank you for showing so much compassion.

Puppy swallowed a sock. They took him in immediately and got it out. Kind of pricey but worth it in the long run. Very caring staff.

I would give 5 stars but the receptionist Shannon was less than friendly. First I want to say the Vet and techs were amazing they got my dog in so fast . They were extremely kind. Now let’s talk about Shannon. I feel like it’s very important to choose your receptionist wisely. They are the first person we see when we walk in, they are essentially the face of the company. Shannon just looks like she doesn’t want to be there. She looked so inconvenienced when she had to do her job. When we go to the emergency vet we are already so stressed/worried. It’d be great if we were greeted by someone that looks like they care.

Absolutely one of the best veterinary hospitals in this area. The surgeon, Dr Weh, was wonderful. Our little Selene has done wonderful with her knee repair. Highly recommend🩷
03.15.2026
We had an emergency with our family dog that required immediate intervention. From the moment we walked in the doors every staff member was kind and friendly. I watched as they handled several other emergencies as well, as people and their pets from a variety of backgrounds came through the doors each was treated like family. Our sweet dog didn’t get to come home but the kindness from start to finish was unparalleled! I would recommend them again and again!

I would not hesitate to recommend Puget Sound Vet!

They worked quickly to assess the issue and were direct with the diagnosis. They handled my very difficult and unexpected situation delicately and helped me make the hardest decision. I'm very grateful for their professionalism.

I cant say enough good things about this practice, of course ER animal visits arent cheap, we have been multiple times for different reasons and everytime the level of care is amazing.

My lab mix has been a neurology patient for years here with her epilepsy. The neurology team is amazing and has worked so hard to take care of my girl. Sunday she had a severe cluster episode so we had to bring her into the ER, which turned into an overnight stay. I can’t emphasize enough how wonderful the ER staff was. We were terrified and overwhelmed and emotional, and they did everything they could to support us. The veterinarian took time to sit down with us multiple times and address all of our concerns and questions. The nurses handled our girl with such gentle care and compassion. The front desk staff kept us updated and informed and everyone did their best to make us comfortable and calm. I can’t thank this staff enough for how much they have done for our family and my lab. Love you guys! -Lyric’s Mom

Our Husky got into the garbage and ate a rotisserie chicken (not the whole thing… but enough to not know if there were bones.) ChatGPT told me to take her in asap to avoid risks of perforation or otherwise. They triaged her and gave sound advice and I could tell they genuinely cared and were conscious of price for me. They could have pushed for immediate expensive treatments as you often see in 24/7 emergency vets but they gave me an honest recommendation. I’m very grateful and would go back to them.

I wish I would have went here first with my dog. I drove from Auburn across the bridge after going to another vet because of their specialty. The whole staff is generous, kind and thoughtful. Understanding what my dog was going through and what we were going through. I would drive any distance to get the care they provided. The work they do is with their whole heart. Love piper brown

Thank God I went with my gut and did not listen to Dr.Blanchard's advice to euthanize my kitten Coi (she's the one hugging her sister) I brought her in because she was very lethargic and had vomited the day before and that morning I took pictures of her vomit and seen a worm in it when I told this to the vet they didn't even care to see what pictures I had instead I spent hours in a room by myself. When the vet did come in she said coi had fleas and ear mites (I had just rescued them) and gave me an estimate of almost $4,000 I started to cry and she said it might be best to humanely euthanize then left the room. After bawling my eyes out and after I almost made that wrong decision I decided to go with my gut and told them that I would like them too deflea her and deworm her and when I found out they hadn't even given her fluids all the hours we had been there I added that in too. I brought her home and she was still a little tired and very very thirsty we had a good night sleep in the next morning she was running around good as new. So please always go with your gut the vets are definitely NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. This is the 4th time I was told by a vet that the best would be to euthanize only to prove them wrong. It seems this day and age they are more about earning the buck then saving a life.

We came here as my dog's right eye was inflamed and looked like it had a small scratch or foreign body in the line of sight, near the center of her pupil. Where to begin? Cons: -"Do no harm" is a constitutional backbone to medicine practice as is, "life and limb" and "life and sight". "Life and sight" didn't appear to be recognizable by the staff of this practice when I asked them directly, -After being told we couldn't be seen because the physician was in surgery, I overheard a call about a pet injesting something poisonous. The front desk put them on hold and spoke with their coworker, not the physician in surgery, who took the call and told the patient they had just spoken with the physician and gave advice based on that (generously interpreted, instant message??) conversation, -Throughout a 10 hour wait, after being quoted 3-4 hours, and during which we watched the redness and discharge worsen, our dog had her blood pressure and temperature taken 3x, all of which were stable. We were told that she couldn't be seen for another 8+ hours because she was stable on their vital check. No fluorescein to initially triage, or later verify, her eye was stable, -Every interaction with Shannon seemed like an inconvenience to her. Pros: -They have coffee, -There are restrooms while you wait, -You can wait in your car. We left before being seen by the physician because of the urgency of the condition not being compatible with the wait time, and their continued inaccuracy of quoting our wait. I will never come back and I will warn people I care for.

My family unfortunately had a horrendous experience at Puget Sound Veterinary. Our dog had a condition that should have been triaged as a urgent 2 (eye wound nearly 24 hrs old) case but she was triaged as stable due to her vitals. We understood not being the top priority but we arrived at 10am and were quoted a 3 hour wait. After 5 hrs we asked for an update and they seemed to have thought we were in the back and ended up back of the line to be seen. We continued to wait and stayed patient for over 10 hours (10am-8:06pm) and then were told it would be another 6-8 hours before a doctor would even exam her. For context, if untreated eye wounds can rapidly deteriorate and lead to loss of eye and quickly loss of life (life & sight is as well known medically as life & limb). On top of the horrible wait, the staff were truly cruel not just to us but to other patients and each other. There was one girl, I believe her name was Shannon, who was incredibly patronizing and snapped at every human caretaker and her coworkers. Several of the front desk staff complained openly about their hours and lack of job satisfaction and it was a very unpleasant environment to be stuck waiting for hours and hours. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and recognizes the danger in their triage policies, and the damaging behavior of their front desk staff. We finally left after the 10 hrs and being told they would not be willing to do a stain test on our dogs eye for several more (6-8) hours. We went to another place that triaged with a doctor within 3 minutes of walking in and had her examined immediately because of the importance of life & sight. I wish they had been honest from the start about the wait and that they dont triage eye wounds at Urgent 2 so we could have saved the pain and time. TLDR; Horrible treatment from cruel & patronizing staff, over 10 hr wait with 6-8 MORE quoted, never examined, dangerous triage practices.

I had to take my Sheepadoodle, Spooky in to emergency at Puget Sound Vet on Dec 22. She had been vomiting all night. All of the staff there are wonderful. I can tell they are there because they truly love caring for our pets. Everything was explained to me in easy to understand language. I was given a cost estimate before proceeding beyond the initial exam. This is the second time I have had to take Spooky there and both experiences were so good. They very caring with Spooky and always sensitive to my feelings. It’s not easy when you doggie is sick but this is best place to take them.

Had a wonderful experience with all of the staff who took care of my girl Charlie both in emergency and in specialty. Dr Weh is very compassionate and does a wonderful job at explaining things to me and calming us down in a panic. Front staff is so warm and welcoming, they do a great job at handling high stress situations. Everyone I encountered in the back is so good with animals and really do treat them as if they are their own. I can’t thank them enough for all the kindness and support while my dog was having her spleen removed.

When our dog Scarlet was having some breathing and bloating issues, we called around and were directed to call Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty. I called and told them what was going on and they were expecting us. I was a little hesitant handing over her leash. Shortly after her exam they told me that she had fluid in her stomach, likely bleeding. After diagnostic testing, we made the hard decision no one wants to make. I couldn’t be happier with Scarlet’s treatment at Puget Sound. The staff was very accommodating, and I was so grateful having veterinarians who could provide me with solid information based on her tests. They went step by step with me through the process, making sure her options were necessary rather than just doing a bunch of upselling work. Thank you so much for making this process as comforting as you could.

In the past, this clinic had a web form and text system so you could “check in” at home for emergency services and they’d text and tell you when to head in. I went to the website to check my dog in and the form was gone and instead it just said if it’s an emergency, to call them (see screenshot). So I called, explained my concern, and the lady who answered said, “Well what do you want US to do about it?” with a snarky tone. I said I don’t know what he needs and your site said to call, not to just come in, so that’s what I did. She acted like I was asking for him to receive treatment over the phone or something. When she realized I was just following the instructions on their own website she didn’t even apologize for the nasty tone she took with me. I started to drive in to have my dog seen, but I was honestly so put off by that exchange that I ended up driving to Puyallup to have him seen at Old Growth Emergency Vet, who were kind both on the phone and when we arrived. I hope whoever that lady on the phone was in gig harbor, that she does better because nobody calling in with a pet in an emergency situation needs that attitude to deal with on top of an already stressful situation.

Puget Sound Animal Hospital took incredible care of our sweet Kora during an emergency. When she suddenly became ill, I first called a Port Orchard vet, and they directed us to Puget Sound. The moment we arrived, the team brought her in immediately on a gurney and started assessing her right away. Sadly, we learned Kora was bleeding internally due to an inoperable cancer we never knew about. We were faced with the heartbreaking decision to let her go. Through the entire process, the staff was compassionate, gentle, and incredibly supportive. They treated Kora with dignity and took such tender care of her—and of us—during one of the hardest moments of our lives. I am truly grateful for the way they cared for Kora and the compassion they showed our family.

Our large dog was bloated and in pain after dinner. PSVS immediately recognized that this was a life-threatening condition and got him into a 4-hour emergency GDV surgery. He was discharged 1 1/2 days later after a successful surgery. The doctors kept us updated on his condition throughout his stay and took immediate action post-surgery when needed to prevent significant complications. PSVS is thoroughly professional and fantastic.

Do whatever you can to not step foot in here. My dog was in severe pain when I brought him to this horrible place. I have been here multiple times I never get the proper care. BUT Tonight is it for me. They left my disabled dog shivering in pain for 3 plus hours in which there was a huge lack of communication and when there was it was something along the lines "the doctor is seeing him now" or "the doctor Is just about to be with him". I finally demanded to take my dog and leave thinking he would have at least been given pain meds. In that 3 plus hours they gave him NOTHING even though one of the first questions is "is it okay to give pain meds" I said yes please that is a huge concern of mine. anddd Yesss of course I understand STAT emergency cases there were about 3-4 during my many hours there. Where I had the problem was when they chose to put my dog on the back burner even when it came to less severe cases - IE my dog is in severe pain and they chose to treat a dog with something in its eye first and they arrived 2 hours after me. I demand for management to reach out and I actually would like to report misconduct. Now I am at home with my dog who is wincing in pain every time he moves. This place absolutely disgusts me. And the nasty girl who brought out my dog should be ashamed of herself for her bad attitude - I hope you never have to sit in a cage in pain for 3 hours. My poor little guy. There was so much they could have done just to make my baby boy comfortable and I would have happily waited but what they did was negligent.

Our first and last visit to this clinic last Sunday. Our 10'year old standard poodle had injured her left front leg the day prior, and when she couldn't bear weight the next morning, we brought her in in hope of getting a X-Ray to determine whether she had a fracture. We called ahead to pre-admit and still spent 3 hours waiting to be seen due to their staffing and triage procedure before we gave up and decided to seek the first available appointment at our regular vet clinic. We informed the front desk and left – halfway home, they called and told us the vet was ready to see us, so we returned (mistake on our part). We returned, and after examination, the vet pitched an ortho consult, a CBC, and culture and sensitivity workup. Which we consented to. This was based on a theory of immune mitigated arthritis on a dog that had been tearing around the yard and digging up rhododendrons minutes before coming up lame. They also wanted to schedule a joint tap (under sedation) based on the hypothesis of IMPA with a low estimate of $2600. Fortunately, we declined. After 8 hours and over $1,000, we left no more informed about our girl’s condition then we arrived. Today, when my wife called to inquire about the status of the culture and sensitivity test results, she was rudely informed that results were not in 5 days after the blood draw and somehow, she was out of line for expecting them to be ready. The TLDR of this review is that the whole experience felt more like a visit to a used car lot pitching the upsell than anything else.

My dear friend took his puppy in for ER services but unfortunately his cancer was too advanced and wasn't going to make it. The staff here were extremely sympathetic, patient and took extraordinary care of us. I wish I was writing this in better circumstances but I'm beyond amazed on how well they handled everything.

I’ve visited this place three times now, and unfortunately, my experiences have gotten worse each time. The first visit was for a simple UTI in my cat. It was an average experience. Nothing particularly good or bad, but definitely overpriced. At the time, it was the only place open, so we didn’t have much choice. The second visit was heartbreaking. I brought in a sick stray in poor health, and they charged me over $1,300 for tests they never actually performed. They told me they thought it was FPV but said they couldn’t confirm without putting him down for the test. That test costs another $1,000 or so. We still ended up going home with a deceased cat, no test results, and a massive bill. On top of that, they placed him in the bag far too soon (if you know, you know). It was messy and felt extremely rushed and disrespectful. The most recent visit was for my cat’s broken tail. I only needed an X-ray and pain medication, but they tried to upsell me over $1,200 worth of unnecessary add-ons like bloodwork and vaccines. I didn’t get any updates for four hours until a new receptionist came in. When we finally got the X-ray, the vet couldn’t tell if her tail was dislocated or fractured. We left 5 hours later with pain meds, no clear answer, and another $500 bill. That was after I declined most of the extras. Overall, it feels like this clinic cares far more about making money than about genuinely helping animals. It’s disheartening and honestly a little scary how profit seems to come before compassion here.

Shannon is an angel! So sweet and helpful!!
10.28.2025
My goodness, what a complete disappointment. I honestly still don’t even know what to think. I love my little Theo so much, I thought I was actually going to receive some loving care. I do believe this place is a money grab business, I didn’t experience any care or concern at all. I will look into all avenues of filing complaints anyway I possibly can.
10.22.2025
I took my cat there after eating a foreign object. They said he'd need x rays and took.him from me. I thought he was getting the x rays. He wasn't he waited 2 hours in the back while they prepared a bill. He should have been with me that whole time. I feel.the costs were quite inflated. Total cost was 12 ,000 to 15,000. I had to put him.to sleep. Worst vet experience I ever had. They shouldn't have taken him from.me until they were actually going to do something.
10.22.2025
I had one of the vet techs tell me I was selfish and a terrible pet parent because I didn’t have 12,000$ to give them. They will make you feel like the worst person ever in your most vulnerable state. Learn freaking bed side manner. Terrible people. I will never take a pet here again and neither should you
10.01.2025
I want to thank the staff at Puget Sound Vet and especially Dr Williams for their compassion yesterday. Putting down a pet is a horrible thing to go through but they made the process a little bit better.

My partner was walking our two dogs when a pick up truck swerved over the white line and knocked them into a deep ditch. Both dogs were severely injured. We contacted Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty and Emergency on our drive there. Upon arrival Staff took the dogs immediately to the back where one was pronounced dead and the older dog was so severely injured that we had to make the very difficult decision to have her euthanized. During this entire horrific experience, from our initial phone call through the decision process until the very end, the staff were so kind, considerate and comforting. They understood the pain we were going through and treated us with such compassion and understanding. We are so grateful that we have such a wonderful facility in our area. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
09.19.2025
I have made more trips to PSVS than I would have liked however the team here is amazing. My kitten has had care both from the ER team and later the specialty team to address her neurology concerns. Dr Brenna is amazing, patiently taking the time to answer all questions and keep me updated while my baby was getting her tests done. They treated her with so much love. The front desk staff even provided a blanket for her carrier when I forgot hers at home. They also have a pretty good set up to work from the waiting room if needed and even play movies for entertainment.

EXCELLENT FACILITY!! HIGHLY RECEOMMEND. After dealing recently with what turned out to be a very deceptive, overpriced emergency facility in Poulsbo, it was very refreshing to find this clinic which is an EMERGENCY Clinic..operating 24/7 having very knowledgeable staff & reasonable prices. Convenient GIG HARBOR location.

Literally so amazing! Came here after waiting almost 6 hours elsewhere and they got me in so quickly and were so helpful. Very friendly staff and everything moved so fast! If I ever have a pet emergency again I will def be coming here. Thank you PSVSE!
09.07.2025
I had to take my cat in for an emergency visit and the staff was wonderful. They were extremely efficient. They kept me well informed and they were able to explain everything really well. Everyone was very friendly and I felt confident leaving my cat in their care. My regular vet referred me to them and I am grateful that they did.

These kind folks have saved my dog twice now. Front office staff & nurses doctors all really nice and caring. Its hectic and upsetting to have a pet emergency - the waiting room and staff created a comforting space compared to others Ive been to. The wait varies but has been better than other places. I live north of Seattle (have family in the area) but in an emergency would drive all the way here if I can!
08.25.2025
I brought my cat in late Saturday night for lil toxicity, and PSVSE was incredibly prompt, kind and quick in getting her set up and checked in. She stayed at the hospital for 48 hours and while I was worried sick, they called every 12 hours on the dot to give me updates and even through I spoke to multiple doctors the updates were ALL through and very helpful. I am so thankful for them for making my girl comfortable and would recommend them for any assistance. of note - as they are an ED there can always be a wait time, but in my experience it was totally reasonable. Thank you so much PSVSE!!
08.21.2025
Quick to get seen. Staff has been amazing! And they are 24hour and have a triage! Thank you so much for seeing bear
08.18.2025
I took my cat Vinnie to their ER. He was very sick and not eating. Dr. Smithy and Reese did a great job of diagnosing to determine Vinnie's illness, and explained each step and option as they went through their process. I now know what his illness is and the next steps for his treatment. The ladies at the front desk were friendly and helpful. One technician stood out because of her effort to resolve an issue I had with one medication. Erin provided VIP Customer Service in helping me resolve the issue. I appreciate her superb effort, communication skills, patience, and follow-through in resolving the problem. Exceptional job Erin!

We so appreciated the 24-7 availability and care offered by Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency when our grand dog was visiting us in Gig Harbor. Caring for someone’s beloved pet sufficiently, especially in an emergency situation, can be challenging, but PSVS&E’s excellent care and follow-through directions eased our angst and reassured us we’d be able to tend to Muffin’s post ER visit needs. Having such ongoing emergency and specialty vet care available in our community is deluxe and Muffin, now recovered, her family, and we—Gma and Gpa— are very grateful for it! Thanks to the staff for their conscientious care, expertise, and help with our grand pup!

They saved my dog’s life. I took my dog in to neurology for weakness in his back legs. The neurologist (Dr Brenna), who was incredibly kind, incidentally found a super small tumor by his anal gland during her exam. It was the size of a grain of rice. Although we ended up taking him to blue pearl because unfortunately, the radiologist there was out of town and I was panicking that my dog possibly had an aggressive cancer and blue pearl was able to get him in sooner for imaging, they were still amazing. My dog did end up having that very aggresive cancer, and it was removed before it metastasized thanks to Dr Brenna finding it. If she didn’t find it, the cancer would have likely metastasized before we found it, and he wouldn’t be here today. Thanks to her thorough exam, my dog is alive and well. We called today to get an appointment with surgery for my other dog, and they were once again very kind and go above and beyond to help.

My poor cat finally reacted to a bad uti Fri late night, was able to reach out to Puget Sound Emergency vet on Sat and was told to bring him in immediately…due to the blockage I wasn’t able to afford to save him, but I was able to have him euthanized so he suffered no more. They put me in a back room with soft music (that’s unfortunately on a loop), and lighting. They waited patiently for me to weigh out all my options. Unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time. At Puget Sound ER they are not numb to putting a creature down, compassionate to the end, they all looked after me, took the time to make a paw with nose print and well as his paw print in clay. They do everything for the client and their personal best friends that they are either saving or saying goodbye to. Thank you to all the staff that took the time to care♥️

I brought my dog Tucker to Puget Sound Specialty & Emergency for a lameness consultation and later for TPLO surgery. Overall, the experience was a mix of excellent care and disappointing customer service. The vet and tech who worked directly with us were fantastic—friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. They took great care of my pet and made sure I understood everything about the process. I felt confident in their hands, and I truly appreciated their compassion and communication. However, the front-end experience left a lot to be desired. When I first called to book the consultation, Chantelle answered the phone and immediately gave off an energy that made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. That same vibe carried through when I arrived—both during the consultation and again on surgery day. The same woman working the front desk each time seemed completely disengaged, like just speaking to clients was a burden. There was no warmth, no basic customer care—just a tired, uninterested attitude that didn’t match the level of care happening behind the scenes. If my pet needs additional specialty care, I’d consider coming back for the medical team alone. But I really hope the clinic invests in improving the client experience at the front desk—it makes a difference, especially during moments like this. Working in healthcare myself, empathy towards others is beyond necessary in this line of work.

Place was dirty, it took someone pointing out a pile of dog vomit in front of the front desk for it to be cleaned up. It was sitting there from before I walked in and for a while during my stay. They use AI in their diagnostics. They don’t tell you up front. I had to read a sign in the back. After my dog was already taken back to know that they use it. On the other hand, the nurse who helped us was transparent and polite. And they do explain costs in good detail

This is an emergency vet clinic, so pets are triaged based on the severity of their condition. If the issue isn’t urgent, you may end up waiting a long time—and while that system makes sense, it can be frustrating if communication from staff is lacking. I’ve had both positive and not-so-great experiences here. One particularly concerning visit involved my dog, who was losing his balance and vomiting. The vet diagnosed him with Horner’s Syndrome, but it turned out he actually had a severe ear infection—something his regular vet caught soon after. It was a scary situation, and I wish the initial exam had been more thorough. That said, I appreciate the service this clinic provides, especially during emergencies, but there’s definitely room for improvement in both communication and diagnostic accuracy. 🐾

Absolutely wonderful emergency pet hospital. Their doctors are so knowledgeable and the entire staff is incredibly kind and caring especially during a very stressful and scary time while your pet is sick. We knew our dog was in good hands when he was admitted to their ICU. We are incredibly grateful to the entire team at PSVSE, they saved our dogs life! Highly recommend if you are in Gig Harbor or surrounding area!

Not even open and it’s called 24 hours this is awful! Do better!

I took my 16 year old dog here because she couldn’t breathe. Dr McElroy evaluated her, and put her in an oxygen tank right away. Unfortunately once she was examined it was determined she was in congestive heart failure. I made the choice to end her suffering. The Dr. and the other employees were extremely sensitive to my heartbreak, and explained the process to me patiently. The Dr. carried her out to my car, and was very caring and gentle with her. Even though it was the worst day of my life, they helped me thru it. I would highly recommend them. Below is my sweet dog Yasmin

If your dog is dead they will ask for payment wont even say im sorry for your loss
06.22.2025
Super helpful staff in such a stressful time. So grateful for their patience and kindness towards us and our sick dog. Kathleen was so gentle and understanding as was the doctor.
06.18.2025
They helped us through a very difficult situation in the middle of the night last night with our dog they were super helpful and very accommodating.
06.10.2025
I showed up at 615am and was told they were doing shift change (fine totally understandable) was told I would be seen around 730/8am. My dog had an ear laceration this is why I was here. At 10am the assistant came and let me know that (after waiting 3 hours) they didn’t have ear medication at their facility. I find this very unprofessional to allow someone to sit there for 3 hours knowing they are there for something you’re unable to treat. I missed hours of work to be there for nothing very disappointing.

Do not recommend honestly I had a vet friend tell me to take my pregnant dog in and get oxytocin for my pregnant female she got x ray and only had one pup left and they said it was to big to come out and needed c section and pup is way to big and honestly what they showed me yes this pup look like it was massive, could not get it c section done there decided to go home due to needing a phone charger and restroom, proceeded to give her some more calcium and Karo and literally birth the last puppy fyi the puppy was same size as the rest kinda feel like those are faulty images. Do not recommend honestly felt like it is all about money and they will not work with you if needed also whole time I’m there just does not seem like they care it more of either pay me money or leave.

The best ER experience I've had, & I've had many. From the curbside triage, to the discharge, the staff was incredibly attentive, kind, thorough, and helpful. Since the facility is an hour from my home, I particularly appreciated being able to register online, then make my way to them. The wait time was more than reasonable for a non-urgent case.

My cat, Max, received amazing care and attention over the weekend at PSVS for an acute case of bilateral pneumonia. The clinicians, technicians and all the staff were just wonderful and helped him put him on the road to recovery. Special shout out to Matt, Elizabeth and their kindness and compassion towards both Max and me. I was THAT cat mom who probably drove everyone nuts with my calls and questions! Thank you all!
05.14.2025
Had an amazing experience here for my dogs dental surgery and cannot recommend enough!! I took my chocolate lab here for a dental extraction and everything went amazingly. The care team educated me on everything to expect and was great to work with. Thank you so much! :)
05.01.2025
Came because my dog is suffering with fever, ear infection, eye infection and drippy nose wasn’t eating and drinking..they took X-ray to see her chest when all is done we came home with antibiotics..I asked if they have anything for her ears I was told my dog needs to see a dermatologist for those issues …seriously she’s sick now and having issues for it…so basically I spent about a grand for an antibiotic and didn’t even give my dogs any fluids she’s dehydrated from not eating and drinking …such a joke! I come here because my dog needs help..if I can get her antibiotics at a store I wouldn’t bother going here but she had more than one health issues I think this is a pathetic care for my sick dog! Close your door if you are not willing to take care of the issues that’s being brought to your clinic!

Dr. Brenna and the entire staff in the neurology department is amazing. From diagnosis of our dog’s brain tumor to maintenance care for quality of life, we’ve continued to feel heard and supported. Everybody is obviously so committed and cares so much about the animals they work with. Worth every penny and the long drive there from Bainbridge!
04.30.2025
I drive here from Seattle because they are so good with my dog. He has needed to see the orthopedic and neurology departments and both were great! The doctors spend a good amount of time going over recommendations and answering questions. I really appreciate the whole teams compassion and commitment to great care!
04.13.2025
The veterinarian here is wonderful and took great care of my corgi. When I told them I was on a budget for my dog’s emergency visit they helped prioritize what was needed in treatment.

We had a pet emergency and my local vet er was 9 hours to see doctor. Drive 1 hour to get there and they were ready for Nola. Everyone was very nice and we got our girl back good as ever!
04.01.2025
Why does a 24 hour veterinary Emergency Clinic not have a veterinarian on staff at all times? Isn’t that the whole point of an emergency clinic?
03.30.2025
They really care about the animals they treat, but they are so understaffed/overworked that I wouldn't recommend going there.

My sweet 10 month old kitten Cece came down with a rare disorder. After seeing three other vets who were unable to identify Cece’s affliction (including an emergency room here in Olympia) I was blessed to go to Puget Sound Veterinary Specialist and Emergency. The emergency clinic saw Cece quickly that very evening…..they were thorough, informative, kind (I was extraordinarily stressed), and identified the best method to get Cece in to see Dr. Brenna (the clinics veterinary neurologist) ASAP. Cece saw Dr. Brenna the very next day. From that point forward Dr. Brenna and her wonderful assistants, Amy and Brittany, took focused, careful, and effective care of my Cece. They investigated multiple possibilities for Cece’s affliction and identified a treatment plan. Dr. Brenna kept Cece at the clinic several days to ensure she did not have a negative reaction to the prescribed medicines. Dr. Brenna continues to see Cece to fine tune the medications, ensure Cece thrives, and hopefully in the long run get Cece off the medications. At all times the clinic advised me in advance of the estimated cost of going forward. I cannot say enough about the care Cece received and how kindly I’ve been treated. Cece loves the staff at Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty…and I do too. We are very fortunate to have this excellent clinic available to us here in the Puget Sound.

They helped us with our dogs final day. So nice. Thank you.

Brought my sweet cat here and I would not recommend to anybody. I arrived around 4pm and did not leave until almost midnight. After waiting 7 hours, they informed me they were not going to collect a sample from my cat because he was “hissing and swiping” (which he has NEVER done at the vet btw). They sent me home with no ultrasound, no bloodwork, nothing. Just pain meds. $300 to keep my cat in a kennel for 7 hours & pain meds. I scheduled an appt with his vet and they did an ultrasound where they found polyps in his bladder. I am so upset as I could have been way ahead of his diagnosis had this ER done something. Complete waste of money going here. Should’ve listened to the other reviews!
02.07.2025
I had an extremely good experience here with my cat, Maybe. Unfortunately, Maybe had gotten into an accident and had to be put down. I brought her in on a Thursday morning and she was seen almost immediately. I drove to this specific clinic from Puyallup because I heard the wait times are not as bad as others close to me. I can’t promise that you’ll have that exact experience, but I think it was worth the drive. The staff was very patient with me and the vet laid my options out along with an estimate of how much each procedure would cost. I did not feel pressured in anyway and they gave me the time I needed to make a decision. Ultimately, we decided that our cat needed to be put down. I went to get my husband from work and they kept her really comfortable until I was able to get back. Obviously, losing your pet is really horrible experience. However, going out of our way to drive an extra 30 minutes to go this vet clinic made the whole experience better for us and for our sweet kitty. I just have my dog now and would come back to this clinic instantly if something were to happen to him.

Wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude for taking such wonderful care of my girl Daphne. Everyone here took such great care of her and made me feel at ease. Knowing that Daphne was in being taken care of was reassuring. Thank you so very much for everything.
01.23.2025
All the staff were friendly, communicative, and knowledgeable. I brought my dog in for a medical emergency and even though they let us know in advance that there would be long wait times, they were able to triage and intake my boy promptly. The doctor and all support staff were transparent about cost expectations, even before providing an estimate. I can't thank PSVSE enough for helping my pup and giving me confidence that he is in good hands.
01.22.2025
I am so disappointed with the way they handled my situation with my cat sent me home with medicine, knowing that he was lethargic and wasn’t drinking or eating any food and made no turnaround whatsoever. I will never recommend this place to anyone to take their animal with that charging me $400 for actually I feel doing really nothing For my cat and his illness. You learn from experience what places will rip you off financially and won’t really help you.
01.22.2025
I’ve only ever had to see the dental specialist (Dr. Schneider) but she’s taken great care of both my cats on separate occasions for their teeth. Dr. Schneider is always very communicative and detail oriented. Forever grateful towards her for ensuring my kitties are always well taken care of. Will definitely be seeing Dr Schneider for my animal’s oral related issues!
01.21.2025
two stars because at least you get through the line quickly here. my dog had a minor bite injury from our other puppy which we were keeping clean at home, but went into the vet for antibiotics. upon leaving they shaved the area (which is fine) but my dog has now been dripping blood down his leg off and on, which didn’t even happen at the time of initial injury. it looks worse now than it did when i brought him in. they wanted to charge $1000 for seeing him. the front desk and vet techs were very kind and good with my dog, but the vet herself was condescending and rude. if you’re able to, make the drive to sumner emergency vet instead.
01.13.2025
I registered to get my dog on the waitlist. They told me it would be 3-6 hours. After waiting 6 hours of worrying about my dog plus juggling waiting, arranging alternate transportation for each of my kids, and canceling other appointments, I called in to find out the status. They informed me that they had canceled him off the waitlist and put in notes that we had gotten in somewhere else. When I told them we did not and I never said we did, they told me I could re-register and start over.
01.08.2025
Very pleased with Service and appreciated how kind they were.

New Year’s Day w As a disaster if you had a pet that needed medical help but they were able to get us in . The staff there was very helpful even at the end of the day which me personally would have called a disaster . Very busy with very serious needs and the time they took for our puppy showed me they really care for our pets .

DO NOT GO HERE. This is a place that uses scare tactics to squeeze you of all they can. I brought my 1yr old pup in because he ate some clothes over the weekend that we thought he puked up already. The next day I took him to the first vet hospital that could get me in which was PSVS&E. The triage nurse came to check on my puppy within 10 minutes of arrival. The first red flag was before even doing any exam, the nurse immediately made reference to my dog needing surgery. We came in see if there was something they could give our pup for his stomach to make him more comfortable until we get him into our vet the next day. I was told “absolutely not” and instead they took my dog to the back and I was left in the lobby for about 40minutes. I thought they were treating him but apparently not because they brought him back out and said it would be about 40 more mins until the doctor could see him. Finally they bring my dog to a kennel and me to a separate room. After about 3 minutes, the same nurse comes to my room and immediately asks if I am ready to begin surgery prep and do Xrays on my dog. At this point I have no idea if the Dr. has done an exam or what the findings were. I was immediately met with attitude from the nurse and given a side eye as I requested to speak with the Vet directly. I dont remember the nurse’s name but she was a younger petite brunette who claimed she also worked at a Bellevue vet hospital. She was absolutely horrible. Finally, Dr. Anne-Marie Lewis came to talk with me and immediately says “so I heard you have questions?”. I was in complete shock because neither Dr. or nurse filled me in on how my dog’s exam went and gave no indication of checking his vitals, weight, etc. Instead the Dr. looked at me like I was crazy for wanting to know how my dog’s initial exam went. It was an extremely uncomfortable 5 minute of me asking the doctor questions and having a hard time getting any clarity of how my dog’s exam went. The nurse then came back and proceeded to guilt trip me into doing $800 xrays to see what may be going on inside my pup. She said things like “I am being adamant about this because I am looking out for your dog’s best interest. I know you are as well, but your dog cant speak for himself and we are really worried about him. We need to do surgery within 12 hours or your dog may not live.” The nurse and Dr immediately saw my dog and myself as a candidate to take advantage of through scare tactics. I ended up begrudgingly doing the xray after hearing the doctor and nurse talk down to me even after telling them we were planning to take him to our regular vet tomorrow morning. After the xrays, they proceeded to tell me that my dog has 12 hours to live and if I don’t proceed with an emergency $10,000 surgery, he will die. I was in shock. Dr. Anne-Marie Lewis and her nurse had zero empathy, compassion or even awareness of the gravity of their words. They claimed their only concern was my dog and this is what needed to be done. They made me feel like I was a horrible person for even having to consider. Mind you, this was over the course of over an hour. With my dog in a kennel in another room away from me. They kept me in the back room alone for 40 mins to stew with their words. Finally, I listened to my gut and got the hell out of there. I told them I needed a second opinion before signing documents that I was going against their medical advice and releasing them fully from liability. I immediately took my dog to another vet hospital to check his vitals to ensure he would make it through the night. This place never even checked my dogs vitals, weight or bloodwork. I was mindblown at their lack of professionalism. My dog’s vitals were fine and we were assured he would survive through the night. The next morning we ended up going to Pinehurst Vet hospital in Olympia who treated my dog on Christmas eve with a surgery that ended up costing us only $3,000. They were kind, caring and worked with us every step of the way. I could go on for hours about why you should avoid this place at all costs!

Dr. Lindsey and her team are absolutely wonderful! Truly the best veterinary experience we’ve ever had. My dog went in for a dental procedure and I was kept in the loop the entire time. Received a call while he was under anesthesia with his exam findings and a treatment plan, and then another call once he was awake and doing well. It all really helped to ease my anxiety. They absolutely focus on patient care and ensure your pet is their number one priority. Highly recommend Dr. Lindsey and her team for your pet’s dental needs!

I just want to give a huge shoutout to Puget Sound Emergency Vet, especially Dr. Blanchard! 🌈🐾 We had to take in my 13 year old cat yesterday for limping and some wheezing. We thought for sure we would get treatment and bring him home, but sadly things were much worse. His x-rays looked awful (lungs, heart, and likely cancer). In discussion with the vet, we realized that he was in a lot of discomfort even though he wasn’t always showing so. It was time to say our goodbyes ❤️🩹 All of the staff there were so kind and wonderful. They were loving on our boy when he was in the back getting oxygen and meds. They got us in a “comfort room” with dim lighting, soft music, a cart with treats and tissues and other things to spend our last moments with our sweet boy. They brought him in a blanket and gave us as much time as we needed. Dr. Blanchard explained every step of the medications she would be administering and how he might react. She was down on the floor at his eye level and also talking to him and petting him. They let us go out to our car while they prepped him and put him a box and brought him out to us to bring home as we wanted to bury him on our property with our others.

Great experience. An emergency vet experience is always stressful but the staff made it as smooth as possible. Would definitely recommend.
11.24.2024
First of all I want to say this is one of the absolute best veterinarian interactions I have ever had. Beginning to end- All of our Vet ER’s were at capacity or closed in Olympia and we ended up in Gig Harbor almost an hour away. Of course I was a little annoyed because my 18 year old dog was in pain and we had to drive an hour, but the kind soul on the other side of the phone was reassuring and loving. She let us know we could stay at home and she would send a message when she was ready for us to leave our house. That’s a great plan, and really kept everyone more comfortable. We got into the vet once we were called and were greeted by the front desk and she was so lovely. Her dog, Lola (the best baby) was even more adorable. Thanks for letting us pet her and love on her. Then out comes Melody. This woman. She is such a beautiful soul. She loved on our sweet Kia bear. She listened, is empathetic, and is a person who truly loves her job. Melody, thank you for showing up. Thank you for being such an amazing human being. Thank you validating our concerns, fears. Hearing us. You are in the right field, and you touched our lives in a way you won’t ever know. Now to the real meat-Dr. Cameron Smithee-This man is an absolute legend of a DVM. I could sing his praises for literal years. Kia like I said earlier is 18 years old, she has presented with chronic pancreatitis her entire life. Lately it’s just been worse. We haven’t been able to control it with normal measures. We talked to Dr. Smithee about her previous lab values over the course of her life. How her kidney values have always just been out of range, how she has intermittent chronic pancreatitis, how she has crazy increased thirst. He highly suspects she had addison’s. Are you freaking kidding me. The thing that has been plaguing my dog for 14 years, and at an emergency veterinarian this man diagnoses (well still needs to be confirmed but highly suspects) she has an adrenal disease and this could alter her life, and change it for the better until she truly is ready to go. Dr. Smithee-you will never know how much that changed our lives, I will sing your praises until the end of my days. I will tell the story of this great Vet ER Doctor in Gig Harbor. You could have possibly given us our Kia back. We thought we might be at the end, but you gave us hope and that’s a gift. You are an absolute gift to this world. Thank you seems like such a pitiful word, but it’s all I have for now. You make such a difference, and you made such a difference in Kia’s life. You heard us. You listened, you pieced this puzzle together. I’m still in awe. We are all resting peacefully at home this morning because of this great team, and I hope this team reads this message on hard days. You are worth it. Keep going, because we see you. ♥️

I often joke that if I experience a "medical event" my wife should just drop me in front of these doors and drive away. Experienced and compassionate professionals at reasonable prices. What more can you ask for?? Wish I could find a human ER this good...
11.06.2024
Our cat had become very uncomfortable and distressed with what we suspected to be a nasty UTI. It was a Sunday and we did not want to wait 24 hours for our local vet to open. PSVSE were able to see us within a couple of hours and prescribe the medications our cat needed. Very efficient and professional service.

My dog had a pre surgery appointment. She needs to have a surgery and they sent a quote so I would be aware of the costs. The doctor was incredibly nice and gave me all options and information and they even cut her nails (her orthopedic problem is in one paw and I was scared to trim them myself). They accept care credit, which is super helpful. I had a really great experience with them.
11.05.2024
I took my friend, Bowie, in for one health concern only to learn very quickly that he was, in fact, hemorrhaging due to ruptured splenic metastases. The manner in which this was quickly, clearly, and gently communicated was unreal. The entire staff was incredible and kind, and helped my last minutes with Bowie were as gentle as he deserved. It’s never a good thing to have to need an emergency vet. But they were absolutely top notch in terms of care for all.
11.02.2024
Really thankful for my emergency experience with PSVS&E. Our dog rather suddenly started being unable to walk and was collapsing which certainly alerted us it was time to bring her to the emergency vet. We were able to check in easily and quickly online to get a spot in their queue. While I'm sure they have some busier nights, we thankfully got in quickly. Their tech and vet team were super professional - really honest, but kind, empathetic, and friendly. Gave it to us straight about our dog's condition - not sugar coating but not being unaware of our feelings. The care our dog received was fantastic too. They were very transparent about costs before anything happened and the facilities were top notch. Obviously ER vets are pricey and this place wasn't an exception but again the transparency and the quality of care was 5/5. Would go again (hope I never need to though!).

Dr Weh and her staff are 10/10. Dr Weh took time to explain the surgery that our puppy needed. The surgery was textbook and her recovery has been absolutely amazing and I give Dr. Weh all the credit for being such an amazing surgeon. I highly recommend Dr. Weh. Thank you Dr. Weh for taking such good care of our Teeter girl!
