I would give 5 stars but the receptionist Shannon was less than friendly. First I want to say the Vet and techs were amazing they got my dog in so fast . They were extremely kind. Now let’s talk about Shannon. I feel like it’s very important to choose your receptionist wisely. They are the first person we see when we walk in, they are essentially the face of the company. Shannon just looks like she doesn’t want to be there. She looked so inconvenienced when she had to do her job. When we go to the emergency vet we are already so stressed/worried. It’d be great if we were greeted by someone that looks like they care.

Absolutely one of the best veterinary hospitals in this area. The surgeon, Dr Weh, was wonderful. Our little Selene has done wonderful with her knee repair. Highly recommend🩷

We had an emergency with our family dog that required immediate intervention. From the moment we walked in the doors every staff member was kind and friendly. I watched as they handled several other emergencies as well, as people and their pets from a variety of backgrounds came through the doors each was treated like family. Our sweet dog didn’t get to come home but the kindness from start to finish was unparalleled! I would recommend them again and again!

I would not hesitate to recommend Puget Sound Vet!

They worked quickly to assess the issue and were direct with the diagnosis. They handled my very difficult and unexpected situation delicately and helped me make the hardest decision. I'm very grateful for their professionalism.

I cant say enough good things about this practice, of course ER animal visits arent cheap, we have been multiple times for different reasons and everytime the level of care is amazing.

My lab mix has been a neurology patient for years here with her epilepsy. The neurology team is amazing and has worked so hard to take care of my girl. Sunday she had a severe cluster episode so we had to bring her into the ER, which turned into an overnight stay. I can’t emphasize enough how wonderful the ER staff was. We were terrified and overwhelmed and emotional, and they did everything they could to support us. The veterinarian took time to sit down with us multiple times and address all of our concerns and questions. The nurses handled our girl with such gentle care and compassion. The front desk staff kept us updated and informed and everyone did their best to make us comfortable and calm. I can’t thank this staff enough for how much they have done for our family and my lab. Love you guys! -Lyric’s Mom

Our Husky got into the garbage and ate a rotisserie chicken (not the whole thing… but enough to not know if there were bones.) ChatGPT told me to take her in asap to avoid risks of perforation or otherwise. They triaged her and gave sound advice and I could tell they genuinely cared and were conscious of price for me. They could have pushed for immediate expensive treatments as you often see in 24/7 emergency vets but they gave me an honest recommendation. I’m very grateful and would go back to them.

I wish I would have went here first with my dog. I drove from Auburn across the bridge after going to another vet because of their specialty. The whole staff is generous, kind and thoughtful. Understanding what my dog was going through and what we were going through. I would drive any distance to get the care they provided. The work they do is with their whole heart. Love piper brown

Thank God I went with my gut and did not listen to Dr.Blanchard's advice to euthanize my kitten Coi (she's the one hugging her sister) I brought her in because she was very lethargic and had vomited the day before and that morning I took pictures of her vomit and seen a worm in it when I told this to the vet they didn't even care to see what pictures I had instead I spent hours in a room by myself. When the vet did come in she said coi had fleas and ear mites (I had just rescued them) and gave me an estimate of almost $4,000 I started to cry and she said it might be best to humanely euthanize then left the room. After bawling my eyes out and after I almost made that wrong decision I decided to go with my gut and told them that I would like them too deflea her and deworm her and when I found out they hadn't even given her fluids all the hours we had been there I added that in too. I brought her home and she was still a little tired and very very thirsty we had a good night sleep in the next morning she was running around good as new. So please always go with your gut the vets are definitely NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. This is the 4th time I was told by a vet that the best would be to euthanize only to prove them wrong. It seems this day and age they are more about earning the buck then saving a life.

We came here as my dog's right eye was inflamed and looked like it had a small scratch or foreign body in the line of sight, near the center of her pupil. Where to begin? Cons: -"Do no harm" is a constitutional backbone to medicine practice as is, "life and limb" and "life and sight". "Life and sight" didn't appear to be recognizable by the staff of this practice when I asked them directly, -After being told we couldn't be seen because the physician was in surgery, I overheard a call about a pet injesting something poisonous. The front desk put them on hold and spoke with their coworker, not the physician in surgery, who took the call and told the patient they had just spoken with the physician and gave advice based on that (generously interpreted, instant message??) conversation, -Throughout a 10 hour wait, after being quoted 3-4 hours, and during which we watched the redness and discharge worsen, our dog had her blood pressure and temperature taken 3x, all of which were stable. We were told that she couldn't be seen for another 8+ hours because she was stable on their vital check. No fluorescein to initially triage, or later verify, her eye was stable, -Every interaction with Shannon seemed like an inconvenience to her. Pros: -They have coffee, -There are restrooms while you wait, -You can wait in your car. We left before being seen by the physician because of the urgency of the condition not being compatible with the wait time, and their continued inaccuracy of quoting our wait. I will never come back and I will warn people I care for.

My family unfortunately had a horrendous experience at Puget Sound Veterinary. Our dog had a condition that should have been triaged as a urgent 2 (eye wound nearly 24 hrs old) case but she was triaged as stable due to her vitals. We understood not being the top priority but we arrived at 10am and were quoted a 3 hour wait. After 5 hrs we asked for an update and they seemed to have thought we were in the back and ended up back of the line to be seen. We continued to wait and stayed patient for over 10 hours (10am-8:06pm) and then were told it would be another 6-8 hours before a doctor would even exam her. For context, if untreated eye wounds can rapidly deteriorate and lead to loss of eye and quickly loss of life (life & sight is as well known medically as life & limb). On top of the horrible wait, the staff were truly cruel not just to us but to other patients and each other. There was one girl, I believe her name was Shannon, who was incredibly patronizing and snapped at every human caretaker and her coworkers. Several of the front desk staff complained openly about their hours and lack of job satisfaction and it was a very unpleasant environment to be stuck waiting for hours and hours. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and recognizes the danger in their triage policies, and the damaging behavior of their front desk staff. We finally left after the 10 hrs and being told they would not be willing to do a stain test on our dogs eye for several more (6-8) hours. We went to another place that triaged with a doctor within 3 minutes of walking in and had her examined immediately because of the importance of life & sight. I wish they had been honest from the start about the wait and that they dont triage eye wounds at Urgent 2 so we could have saved the pain and time. TLDR; Horrible treatment from cruel & patronizing staff, over 10 hr wait with 6-8 MORE quoted, never examined, dangerous triage practices.

I had to take my Sheepadoodle, Spooky in to emergency at Puget Sound Vet on Dec 22. She had been vomiting all night. All of the staff there are wonderful. I can tell they are there because they truly love caring for our pets. Everything was explained to me in easy to understand language. I was given a cost estimate before proceeding beyond the initial exam. This is the second time I have had to take Spooky there and both experiences were so good. They very caring with Spooky and always sensitive to my feelings. It’s not easy when you doggie is sick but this is best place to take them.

Had a wonderful experience with all of the staff who took care of my girl Charlie both in emergency and in specialty. Dr Weh is very compassionate and does a wonderful job at explaining things to me and calming us down in a panic. Front staff is so warm and welcoming, they do a great job at handling high stress situations. Everyone I encountered in the back is so good with animals and really do treat them as if they are their own. I can’t thank them enough for all the kindness and support while my dog was having her spleen removed.

When our dog Scarlet was having some breathing and bloating issues, we called around and were directed to call Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty. I called and told them what was going on and they were expecting us. I was a little hesitant handing over her leash. Shortly after her exam they told me that she had fluid in her stomach, likely bleeding. After diagnostic testing, we made the hard decision no one wants to make. I couldn’t be happier with Scarlet’s treatment at Puget Sound. The staff was very accommodating, and I was so grateful having veterinarians who could provide me with solid information based on her tests. They went step by step with me through the process, making sure her options were necessary rather than just doing a bunch of upselling work. Thank you so much for making this process as comforting as you could.

In the past, this clinic had a web form and text system so you could “check in” at home for emergency services and they’d text and tell you when to head in. I went to the website to check my dog in and the form was gone and instead it just said if it’s an emergency, to call them (see screenshot). So I called, explained my concern, and the lady who answered said, “Well what do you want US to do about it?” with a snarky tone. I said I don’t know what he needs and your site said to call, not to just come in, so that’s what I did. She acted like I was asking for him to receive treatment over the phone or something. When she realized I was just following the instructions on their own website she didn’t even apologize for the nasty tone she took with me. I started to drive in to have my dog seen, but I was honestly so put off by that exchange that I ended up driving to Puyallup to have him seen at Old Growth Emergency Vet, who were kind both on the phone and when we arrived. I hope whoever that lady on the phone was in gig harbor, that she does better because nobody calling in with a pet in an emergency situation needs that attitude to deal with on top of an already stressful situation.

Puget Sound Animal Hospital took incredible care of our sweet Kora during an emergency. When she suddenly became ill, I first called a Port Orchard vet, and they directed us to Puget Sound. The moment we arrived, the team brought her in immediately on a gurney and started assessing her right away. Sadly, we learned Kora was bleeding internally due to an inoperable cancer we never knew about. We were faced with the heartbreaking decision to let her go. Through the entire process, the staff was compassionate, gentle, and incredibly supportive. They treated Kora with dignity and took such tender care of her—and of us—during one of the hardest moments of our lives. I am truly grateful for the way they cared for Kora and the compassion they showed our family.

Our large dog was bloated and in pain after dinner. PSVS immediately recognized that this was a life-threatening condition and got him into a 4-hour emergency GDV surgery. He was discharged 1 1/2 days later after a successful surgery. The doctors kept us updated on his condition throughout his stay and took immediate action post-surgery when needed to prevent significant complications. PSVS is thoroughly professional and fantastic.

Do whatever you can to not step foot in here. My dog was in severe pain when I brought him to this horrible place. I have been here multiple times I never get the proper care. BUT Tonight is it for me. They left my disabled dog shivering in pain for 3 plus hours in which there was a huge lack of communication and when there was it was something along the lines "the doctor is seeing him now" or "the doctor Is just about to be with him". I finally demanded to take my dog and leave thinking he would have at least been given pain meds. In that 3 plus hours they gave him NOTHING even though one of the first questions is "is it okay to give pain meds" I said yes please that is a huge concern of mine. anddd Yesss of course I understand STAT emergency cases there were about 3-4 during my many hours there. Where I had the problem was when they chose to put my dog on the back burner even when it came to less severe cases - IE my dog is in severe pain and they chose to treat a dog with something in its eye first and they arrived 2 hours after me. I demand for management to reach out and I actually would like to report misconduct. Now I am at home with my dog who is wincing in pain every time he moves. This place absolutely disgusts me. And the nasty girl who brought out my dog should be ashamed of herself for her bad attitude - I hope you never have to sit in a cage in pain for 3 hours. My poor little guy. There was so much they could have done just to make my baby boy comfortable and I would have happily waited but what they did was negligent.

Our first and last visit to this clinic last Sunday. Our 10'year old standard poodle had injured her left front leg the day prior, and when she couldn't bear weight the next morning, we brought her in in hope of getting a X-Ray to determine whether she had a fracture. We called ahead to pre-admit and still spent 3 hours waiting to be seen due to their staffing and triage procedure before we gave up and decided to seek the first available appointment at our regular vet clinic. We informed the front desk and left – halfway home, they called and told us the vet was ready to see us, so we returned (mistake on our part). We returned, and after examination, the vet pitched an ortho consult, a CBC, and culture and sensitivity workup. Which we consented to. This was based on a theory of immune mitigated arthritis on a dog that had been tearing around the yard and digging up rhododendrons minutes before coming up lame. They also wanted to schedule a joint tap (under sedation) based on the hypothesis of IMPA with a low estimate of $2600. Fortunately, we declined. After 8 hours and over $1,000, we left no more informed about our girl’s condition then we arrived. Today, when my wife called to inquire about the status of the culture and sensitivity test results, she was rudely informed that results were not in 5 days after the blood draw and somehow, she was out of line for expecting them to be ready. The TLDR of this review is that the whole experience felt more like a visit to a used car lot pitching the upsell than anything else.

My dear friend took his puppy in for ER services but unfortunately his cancer was too advanced and wasn't going to make it. The staff here were extremely sympathetic, patient and took extraordinary care of us. I wish I was writing this in better circumstances but I'm beyond amazed on how well they handled everything.

I’ve visited this place three times now, and unfortunately, my experiences have gotten worse each time. The first visit was for a simple UTI in my cat. It was an average experience. Nothing particularly good or bad, but definitely overpriced. At the time, it was the only place open, so we didn’t have much choice. The second visit was heartbreaking. I brought in a sick stray in poor health, and they charged me over $1,300 for tests they never actually performed. They told me they thought it was FPV but said they couldn’t confirm without putting him down for the test. That test costs another $1,000 or so. We still ended up going home with a deceased cat, no test results, and a massive bill. On top of that, they placed him in the bag far too soon (if you know, you know). It was messy and felt extremely rushed and disrespectful. The most recent visit was for my cat’s broken tail. I only needed an X-ray and pain medication, but they tried to upsell me over $1,200 worth of unnecessary add-ons like bloodwork and vaccines. I didn’t get any updates for four hours until a new receptionist came in. When we finally got the X-ray, the vet couldn’t tell if her tail was dislocated or fractured. We left 5 hours later with pain meds, no clear answer, and another $500 bill. That was after I declined most of the extras. Overall, it feels like this clinic cares far more about making money than about genuinely helping animals. It’s disheartening and honestly a little scary how profit seems to come before compassion here.

Shannon is an angel! So sweet and helpful!!
10.29.2025
My goodness, what a complete disappointment. I honestly still don’t even know what to think. I love my little Theo so much, I thought I was actually going to receive some loving care. I do believe this place is a money grab business, I didn’t experience any care or concern at all. I will look into all avenues of filing complaints anyway I possibly can.
10.22.2025
I took my cat there after eating a foreign object. They said he'd need x rays and took.him from me. I thought he was getting the x rays. He wasn't he waited 2 hours in the back while they prepared a bill. He should have been with me that whole time. I feel.the costs were quite inflated. Total cost was 12 ,000 to 15,000. I had to put him.to sleep. Worst vet experience I ever had. They shouldn't have taken him from.me until they were actually going to do something.
10.22.2025
I had one of the vet techs tell me I was selfish and a terrible pet parent because I didn’t have 12,000$ to give them. They will make you feel like the worst person ever in your most vulnerable state. Learn freaking bed side manner. Terrible people. I will never take a pet here again and neither should you
10.01.2025
I want to thank the staff at Puget Sound Vet and especially Dr Williams for their compassion yesterday. Putting down a pet is a horrible thing to go through but they made the process a little bit better.

One of the best emergency vet clinics in the area.

My partner was walking our two dogs when a pick up truck swerved over the white line and knocked them into a deep ditch. Both dogs were severely injured. We contacted Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty and Emergency on our drive there. Upon arrival Staff took the dogs immediately to the back where one was pronounced dead and the older dog was so severely injured that we had to make the very difficult decision to have her euthanized. During this entire horrific experience, from our initial phone call through the decision process until the very end, the staff were so kind, considerate and comforting. They understood the pain we were going through and treated us with such compassion and understanding. We are so grateful that we have such a wonderful facility in our area. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I have made more trips to PSVS than I would have liked however the team here is amazing. My kitten has had care both from the ER team and later the specialty team to address her neurology concerns. Dr Brenna is amazing, patiently taking the time to answer all questions and keep me updated while my baby was getting her tests done. They treated her with so much love. The front desk staff even provided a blanket for her carrier when I forgot hers at home. They also have a pretty good set up to work from the waiting room if needed and even play movies for entertainment.

EXCELLENT FACILITY!! HIGHLY RECEOMMEND. After dealing recently with what turned out to be a very deceptive, overpriced emergency facility in Poulsbo, it was very refreshing to find this clinic which is an EMERGENCY Clinic..operating 24/7 having very knowledgeable staff & reasonable prices. Convenient GIG HARBOR location.

Literally so amazing! Came here after waiting almost 6 hours elsewhere and they got me in so quickly and were so helpful. Very friendly staff and everything moved so fast! If I ever have a pet emergency again I will def be coming here. Thank you PSVSE!
09.07.2025
I had to take my cat in for an emergency visit and the staff was wonderful. They were extremely efficient. They kept me well informed and they were able to explain everything really well. Everyone was very friendly and I felt confident leaving my cat in their care. My regular vet referred me to them and I am grateful that they did.

These kind folks have saved my dog twice now. Front office staff & nurses doctors all really nice and caring. Its hectic and upsetting to have a pet emergency - the waiting room and staff created a comforting space compared to others Ive been to. The wait varies but has been better than other places. I live north of Seattle (have family in the area) but in an emergency would drive all the way here if I can!
08.26.2025
I brought my cat in late Saturday night for lil toxicity, and PSVSE was incredibly prompt, kind and quick in getting her set up and checked in. She stayed at the hospital for 48 hours and while I was worried sick, they called every 12 hours on the dot to give me updates and even through I spoke to multiple doctors the updates were ALL through and very helpful. I am so thankful for them for making my girl comfortable and would recommend them for any assistance. of note - as they are an ED there can always be a wait time, but in my experience it was totally reasonable. Thank you so much PSVSE!!
08.22.2025
Quick to get seen. Staff has been amazing! And they are 24hour and have a triage! Thank you so much for seeing bear
08.18.2025
I took my cat Vinnie to their ER. He was very sick and not eating. Dr. Smithy and Reese did a great job of diagnosing to determine Vinnie's illness, and explained each step and option as they went through their process. I now know what his illness is and the next steps for his treatment. The ladies at the front desk were friendly and helpful. One technician stood out because of her effort to resolve an issue I had with one medication. Erin provided VIP Customer Service in helping me resolve the issue. I appreciate her superb effort, communication skills, patience, and follow-through in resolving the problem. Exceptional job Erin!

We so appreciated the 24-7 availability and care offered by Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency when our grand dog was visiting us in Gig Harbor. Caring for someone’s beloved pet sufficiently, especially in an emergency situation, can be challenging, but PSVS&E’s excellent care and follow-through directions eased our angst and reassured us we’d be able to tend to Muffin’s post ER visit needs. Having such ongoing emergency and specialty vet care available in our community is deluxe and Muffin, now recovered, her family, and we—Gma and Gpa— are very grateful for it! Thanks to the staff for their conscientious care, expertise, and help with our grand pup!
08.12.2025
They saved my dog’s life. I took my dog in to neurology for weakness in his back legs. The neurologist (Dr Brenna), who was incredibly kind, incidentally found a super small tumor by his anal gland during her exam. It was the size of a grain of rice. Although we ended up taking him to blue pearl because unfortunately, the radiologist there was out of town and I was panicking that my dog possibly had an aggressive cancer and blue pearl was able to get him in sooner for imaging, they were still amazing. My dog did end up having that very aggresive cancer, and it was removed before it metastasized thanks to Dr Brenna finding it. If she didn’t find it, the cancer would have likely metastasized before we found it, and he wouldn’t be here today. Thanks to her thorough exam, my dog is alive and well. We called today to get an appointment with surgery for my other dog, and they were once again very kind and go above and beyond to help.

My poor cat finally reacted to a bad uti Fri late night, was able to reach out to Puget Sound Emergency vet on Sat and was told to bring him in immediately…due to the blockage I wasn’t able to afford to save him, but I was able to have him euthanized so he suffered no more. They put me in a back room with soft music (that’s unfortunately on a loop), and lighting. They waited patiently for me to weigh out all my options. Unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time. At Puget Sound ER they are not numb to putting a creature down, compassionate to the end, they all looked after me, took the time to make a paw with nose print and well as his paw print in clay. They do everything for the client and their personal best friends that they are either saving or saying goodbye to. Thank you to all the staff that took the time to care♥️
08.04.2025
I brought my dog Tucker to Puget Sound Specialty & Emergency for a lameness consultation and later for TPLO surgery. Overall, the experience was a mix of excellent care and disappointing customer service. The vet and tech who worked directly with us were fantastic—friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. They took great care of my pet and made sure I understood everything about the process. I felt confident in their hands, and I truly appreciated their compassion and communication. However, the front-end experience left a lot to be desired. When I first called to book the consultation, Chantelle answered the phone and immediately gave off an energy that made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. That same vibe carried through when I arrived—both during the consultation and again on surgery day. The same woman working the front desk each time seemed completely disengaged, like just speaking to clients was a burden. There was no warmth, no basic customer care—just a tired, uninterested attitude that didn’t match the level of care happening behind the scenes. If my pet needs additional specialty care, I’d consider coming back for the medical team alone. But I really hope the clinic invests in improving the client experience at the front desk—it makes a difference, especially during moments like this. Working in healthcare myself, empathy towards others is beyond necessary in this line of work.
08.02.2025
Place was dirty, it took someone pointing out a pile of dog vomit in front of the front desk for it to be cleaned up. It was sitting there from before I walked in and for a while during my stay. They use AI in their diagnostics. They don’t tell you up front. I had to read a sign in the back. After my dog was already taken back to know that they use it. On the other hand, the nurse who helped us was transparent and polite. And they do explain costs in good detail
07.23.2025
This is an emergency vet clinic, so pets are triaged based on the severity of their condition. If the issue isn’t urgent, you may end up waiting a long time—and while that system makes sense, it can be frustrating if communication from staff is lacking. I’ve had both positive and not-so-great experiences here. One particularly concerning visit involved my dog, who was losing his balance and vomiting. The vet diagnosed him with Horner’s Syndrome, but it turned out he actually had a severe ear infection—something his regular vet caught soon after. It was a scary situation, and I wish the initial exam had been more thorough. That said, I appreciate the service this clinic provides, especially during emergencies, but there’s definitely room for improvement in both communication and diagnostic accuracy. 🐾

Absolutely wonderful emergency pet hospital. Their doctors are so knowledgeable and the entire staff is incredibly kind and caring especially during a very stressful and scary time while your pet is sick. We knew our dog was in good hands when he was admitted to their ICU. We are incredibly grateful to the entire team at PSVSE, they saved our dogs life! Highly recommend if you are in Gig Harbor or surrounding area!

Not even open and it’s called 24 hours this is awful! Do better!

I took my 16 year old dog here because she couldn’t breathe. Dr McElroy evaluated her, and put her in an oxygen tank right away. Unfortunately once she was examined it was determined she was in congestive heart failure. I made the choice to end her suffering. The Dr. and the other employees were extremely sensitive to my heartbreak, and explained the process to me patiently. The Dr. carried her out to my car, and was very caring and gentle with her. Even though it was the worst day of my life, they helped me thru it. I would highly recommend them. Below is my sweet dog Yasmin

Super helpful staff in such a stressful time. So grateful for their patience and kindness towards us and our sick dog. Kathleen was so gentle and understanding as was the doctor.

They helped us through a very difficult situation in the middle of the night last night with our dog they were super helpful and very accommodating.
