I had a tremendous hassle trying to sell shares of a stock that was in both my parents' name. The stock company insisted on a certified copy of my mother's death certificate with a seal, but Virginia couldn't provide exactly what they wanted. Three years ago Assets International contacted me and offered to help me for a fee.Apparently enough time had gone by for the company to finally declare the stock as unclaimed. It wasn't effortless, as I still had to go to court with a lawyer and reopen by Father's will and there were a lot of papers to sign and months of delay, BUT now I had $64,000 that I didn't have before. Please don't waste your time, or allow your loved ones to fall for this scam. Assets International should be considered predatory and misleading to sell family members on unclaimed assets. The fees are open ended and will accrue exponentially during the process despite any initial claims. We were planning to ignore any contact regarding the estate of my husbands estranged father. After being pressured by family members to proceed, my husband agreed to comply with the requests for signature. After the lengthy process and accruing all the costs of notary and priority mailing, AI and their associated law firm collected 1/3 of the assets, dispersed 1/3 to another family member, but my husband was left with 100% of the tax burden, effectively negating any benefit. Please don't waste your time and energy to allow this organization to profit off a deceased persons ignorance or inability to estate plan.
